We have deep appreciation and gratitude for the many teachers, school counselors and coaches who have been instrumental in preparing our children for success.
Olivia (York 2018) is a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduate (2022) and is employed by a global leader in enterprise software. Marissa (York 2020) is a junior at the University of Kansas, and Andrew (York 2023) is a NCAA Division I soccer commit to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the fall of 2023.
As parents, we have had the opportunity to follow our children’s K-12 journey through District 205, and carefully observe how the academic learning platform has changed.
Over the last several years merit and rigor have been supplanted by a new educational mindset that has jettisoned curriculum that has worked for centuries in favor of equity. The data shows the academic results are not good.
According to the 2022 Illinois Report Card, only 45% of District 205 8th graders can do math at grade level, and only 50% of York 11th graders meet or exceed standards in math and English Language Arts. The data also shows the downward trend in academic proficiency began before the pandemic and has continued to drop.
Elmhurst Public Schools are no longer producing academic excellence and preparing children for success, especially children from low-income precincts.
If elected to the District 205 Board of Education, my goal is to prioritize academic achievement for all students in our community, and restore academic excellence.
